Barry Gardiner MP Dithering Over Disgraced Aide

You read it here first, but Barry Gardiner's local paper - the Wembley & Kingsbury Times have picked up on the outrageous behaviour of his newly appointed staff member Joseph "Seph" Brown who caused outrage when he advocated the shooting of Zionists.

Particuarly damning are the quotes from people within Gardiner's constituency and beyond:

"The appointment drew huge criticism from Jewish groups who immediately called for Mr Gardiner, who is a former chairman of Labour Friends of Israel, to sack him. Ken Sinclair, who is Jewish and chairman of Northwick Park Residents’ Association, said:

“Shooting Zionists, which reflects on all Jewish people, is disgusting and what respect I had for Barry Gardiner has gone. People should think very carefully when they utter words like these as at the moment with the BNP we do have a common enemy and we need to make an effort not to throw racist comments at each other.”

Keith Fraser, spokesman for Zionists Federation of Great Britain and Ireland, said: “I think it is pretty sad to have someone like him (Mr Brown) assisting one of our elected leaders. It is disgusting. I think by the time the next election comes around a lot of people will have forgotten but it should lose him (Mr Gardiner)votes from anyone with a modicum of reasonableness. “Anyone who wants to see an end to extremism and racism should not vote for him and it does not matter if you are Jewish, Muslim, Christian or anything else.”"

Mr Gardiner has so far refused to respond to Tory Bear's questioning, but was rightfully worried and broke cover when his local paper got involved:

“I am conducting an investigation into this issue and will issue a statement in due course. At this stage I can’t say more than that.”

TB can think of a few things you should say Barry. "You're fired" would be pretty high up the list.

So still the questions remain:

Did Barry Gardiner know about this incident before he employed Seph Brown?

If not, who vetted the job applicants?

If so, does he defend the actions of Seph Brown?

It's been a week since TB broke this story, time to stop dithering Barry.

UPDATE 17.15: The Jewish Cronicle has more.

That would be the same Barry who voted against the Gurkha's and called for MP's to apologise over expenses.

Then claimed that he had done nothing wrong!

Worth saying that, whilst such a statement is terrible, people have said (and done) a lot worse and still been employed later. Your leader, for one, unless you are one of the minuscule amount of tories who thinks he takes the refusal to answer drugs questions as being a selfless point of principle.

Any particular reason you don't like this person, TB?

Martin - are you honestly suggesting that advocating the shooting of Zionists is worse than possibly having taken cannabis?

Some people have what one might term muddled priorities!

Alex- I'm saying that everyone does things at university that they wish that they hadn't done, or said.

I'm saying that pretending to shoot into the air whilst saying that you are shooting Zionists is a horrible and hateful thing to do, but I've heard much, much worse at my local conservative association, from people who are employed by the party today.

I'm saying that, from the look of the report, the guy wasn't actually advocating the shooting of Israelis, and probably thought he was being funny. He wasn't being funny, but he probably thought he was, and that should mean we don't treat him as some hideously confirmed anti-semite.

I'm saying that whatever this aide thinks about Israel is probably entirely immaterial to his job.

And I'm saying that this type of partisan-influenced head-hunting, especially of people in junior positions, always makes me sick, no matter what party they are or what it is they are claimed to have done.

And, last time I checked, the media consensus was that Cameron snorted cocaine, not smoked cannabis. Although, of course, only he and his Bullingdon Club friends know for sure.

I know that guy! He was at LSE with me! I remember the stir caused by his comments being in the Beaver, the university's newspaper.

He always had a reputation for being, to put it mildly, "not friendly to the people of Israel". Others used much stronger terms.

what's wrong with taking cocaine?
