Tories Say Sod Twitter

Touching on what TB

said the other day
, it is interesting to note which party actually understands how to use social media. Labour huff and puff abot how great they are at engaging on Twitter, yet in reality all this really means is that there is an exteded circle jerk of about two hundred core actavists all talking about the same nonsense and thinking an election can be won with a hashtag. There is no real branching out to a wide audience. The media love Twitter, it's a hook, but under the radar is where the real action is happening:
Dave and co on the other hand are cutting through the chatter and actually targeting voters rather than activists. Last week it was Osborne on Facebook, a site where millions rather than thousand go and spend significant time staring at pages on which well placed ads can be planted, and today Dave is doing a
live chat on MSN
. A socal network used by far far more people than Twitter.

For all their boasting chat, Labour really are dumb.

Agreed. Twitter's great if there's material for it to draw people too - and it can create a buzz.

But if there is no extra material then it's a waste of time. There has to already be stuff on Youtube, facebook and the blogs etc. for it to be worth any political party bothering with it for more than fun and frolics.

My favourite Labour cadre is @BevaniteEllie, with her heady cocktail of in jokes, self-promotion, political starfucker gossip, and naive hero worship of Polly Toynbee and Hatchet Harpy.

I've actually already proposed to her via Twitter but my advances were spurned.

Her loss.

A circle-jerk is exactly right. Anytime I click hashtags like #bbcqt and #thisweek on a Thursday evening, among some amusing and credible commentary there always emerges the same small group of tory-haters retweeting each others self-validating delusions and baseless invective. Like noisy blowhard gobshites bellowing their right-on opinions in an SU bar.

If only Twitter had some way of auto-blocking anyone whose avatar has a Labour rose twibbon.

TB, did you actually attend Osborne's Facebook "event" last week? The live chat had less than 20 people (including yours truly). Most people were open, but when it was discovered that Osborne was not going to answer questions from the live chat it got quite hostile.

Don't try to kid us that the facebook event was "social media", it could easily have been a video recorded in front of audience with planted questions.

For what it's worth, my polite question was "where is the accountability in your 8 benchmarks?" and the question was ignored. Don't you think that was a legitimate questiuon, and one that the public should have answered?

"@BevaniteEllie"

I've always assumed she's just a Labour equivalent of Enfield's "Tory Boy" that someone is roleplaying for a laugh, rather than an actual person.

Just been to Cameron's MSN event. During the talk the LiveStream has said that there are about 220 people. Not quite "branching out to a wide audience" in fact, I notice that you have ten times more followers on twitter!

So there you have it TB is more popular than DC!

(PS nice to see OH contributing. DC didn't answer any of *his* questions!)

Camerons webcast was a waste of time too. Not one question about EU membership and not one question about democracy (EvoEl).

Politicians avoiding the issues and avoiding the tricky questions en mass.

Who said these events were not stage-managed?

Only to be expected.

The Right use computer / communications stuff as a tool. So they mostly use PCs and blackberries.

The Left use it as a way to show that they are cool, so they use Macs and iPods.

Sadly she's all too real.

Company magazine is shortly going to publish an interview she did with Crash.

Ho, Bear! Given your Libreal Consparicy jibe, explain what "core actavists" are|

Tut. Almost Draperesque.
