Sick.

Matt Lewis resigned on Boxing Day as the Conservative Future Area Chairman for Staffordshire. Having clearly spent Christmas drafting his resignation letter that cited the Rock reforms as the reason for quitting, it was his behaviour over the New Year that has made TB glad to see the back of Mr Lewis:

On his Facebook page Lewis has divulged the sickening details of dressing up for a party as Madeleine McCann. What sort of sick bastards would find this funny?
To add insult to injury Lewis then went on to proudly boast about these antics to fellow CFers:

Have these people lost their minds as well as developed abysmal poor taste? If he hadn't already quit Tory Bear would be calling for resignations over this. The Conservative Party has no room for this sort of appalling behaviour and warped individuals.

TB wonders how Matt can be 100% sure there are no photos...

ah the joys have facebook have taken another prisoner. when will people learn? you would have thought that with it being widely known that potential employers and even university lecturers are checking up on you on facebook that this kind of distaseful behaviour would be picked up on.

First I think this is discrasful any one to do this and then boast about it! You dont need any photos when you tell all on facebook.

Second for another CFer to say that she would have to stop speaking as it might risk her becoming an MP, my gosh! I hope will never see any one as tasteless as a Tory MP. I hope to see a statement from Staffordshire CF and CF NME about how the fools in questen don't represent CF.

This is kinda weird... Agreeing with previous "Anonymous" the fact that one of the people is citing themselves as a future MP is a tad strange aswell...

Wow this is worse than a Tory heading off to Cuba to spending his money helping Communist Castro...

Yes, it is pretty lame and even dumber to post it on Facebook. Good to see young Tories are as au fait with social media as their older bretheren.

he's merediths best mate + they live together in london. he resigned too.

anon at 18:24 don't worry about cox becoming an mp she's to fat to fit on the green benches.

Anonymous said...

A real shame that North West co-ordinator Richard Lowe got involved here.

Anonymous said...

Meredith hasn't resigned. he doesn't go til march

Anonymous said...

I wonder if he is even sorry for what he has done or if he thinks that he has done anything wrong in the first place. It is this kind of behaviour that makes students and teenagers alike be taken less seriously by the older members of the party and the general public.

Not ideal, perhaps CF needs to learn from the past and stop being bloody silly.

TB do you not think this verges mildly on stalking...? xx

Cox & Lewis are like a modern day Bonnie and Clyde, they think they can get away with anything. Well not this time, their supporters should be ashamed.

Anonymous said...

his profile is still accessible, with no security on it. I've a good mind to message all the groups he is a member of to let them know what a sicko he is.

What a cock.

Pissed of with CF in-fighting said...

So he dressed up in bad taste... for a bad taste themed party?

That is truly criminal!!!!

Anonymous said...

They're STUDENTS! Its about time everyone stopped being offended at EVERYTHING. Not done in the best possible taste and granted the stupid boy shouldn't plaster it all over facebook.. but, honestly.. all this fuss!

Where have all the grownups gone?

Anonymous said...

the daily mail are looking into this.

Anonymous said...

is this not just a bit of fun that's gone too far

still, most popular story on your blog

Anonymous said...

I find the tone of personally affronted outrage in this blog far worth than anything the young ninny in question has written on facebook. Where do you get off on taking such a high-moral self-righteous tone? I'd hate to know someone like you.

Only problem here is it's such an old joke

Well he has gotten the Tory Party quite a bit of really horrendous press. Not exactly what you want in an activist.

The comment posted at 20:19 on 8 January regarding Ms Cox being "too fat to sit on the front benches" in utterly unacceptable. It is as ignorant and insensitive as Mr Lewis's choice of outfit.

Ms Cox could have expressed her distaste in more forceful terms but this error of judgment is Mr Lewis's, not hers.

Gratuitous personal attacks designed purely to offend are immature and unnecessary. Grow up.

Why have Cox and Lowe not been booted out too? Or even suspended?

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't he get a Darwin award?

Anonymous said...

I guess he won't be opposing the Rock Reforms anymore then...nor will anyone else!

Reflects the growing lack of ability to empathise with others which is destroying our society, we should challenge this whether we are socialist, tory, or new labour

The comment posted at 16:55 is utterly deluded. There is nothing wrong with 'fat' comments, perhaps the person in question should use it as motivation to get themselves out of the malaise?

I find it insulting that you believe a fat comment and Madeline's disappearance are the same. In your words, 'Grow up'.

Why is everyone posting as anonymous?

Oh come on, please! Here in South Africa, the current president of the ANC didn't feel the need to step down over corruption charges, or even when he went to trial on rape charges, and you people are crying over a student's bad taste. You need to get some perspective and realise how lucky you are to live in a true democracy. Politicians forced to step down over minor antics? Oh, how we dream...

Is this another Bowmangate? A few years back, Fergus Bowman who was Chair of the CF group at Preston was also kicked out of the party for disgraceful homophobic comments on Facebook.

Spelman should GO NOW!
Enough of this two-faced rubbish

This seems to have gotten rather out of hand. I think Mr Bear should have known from experience that this had the potential to blow up to these extreme levels. Your blog has been really great over the past few months, but I think people are going to tread very carefully from now on where you are concerned.

It's funny, I think. It was a bad taste party, his costume was in bad taste. It's a simple concept to understand surely? But on the other hand, if you don't think it's funny, fair enough. Humour's subjective. I can understand that point of view. But, in any case, you can still just move on.

If we were all held accountable for everything we'd done in our entire lives, including when we were students, I don't think many of us would come up smelling of roses. Worry about your own lives, not those of other people.

As a not so young Tory My message to Matt Lewis is, "Brass it out old son".
All will be forgot, and anyway you dont want to be a conservative under David Cameron anyway.

They shouldn't worry based on past form they will go far in the Tory Party. There are plenty of current MPs who did equally crass things in their FCS days - there may not be as much evidence, but take my word they did!

E. said...

Yes, this was in poor taste, but I'd rather that TB had had a quiet word with Matt, not plastered it all over his site.

The last thing the party needs is press about how we find stories such as Madelines amusing.

i'm not sure which is worse - the sanctimonious, self-righteous tone of this blogger, or the appalling spelling and grammar of the fat girl who wants to be an mp.

the landed aristocracy are meant to be full of poor taste tomfoolery. what happened to the real tories?

Anonymous said...

so it's ok to wear bad taste costume to a bad taste party except where that costume falls on the wrong side of a line drawn by hysterical tabloid editors. right, glad that's clear.

Anonymous said...

does anyone have a link to his facebook profile?

Anonymous said...

Perhaps wisely, he has deleted his Facebook page!

I will not be "sanctimonious", but let me ask this question about the "joke in bad taste": where is the "joke"? don't get mad, seriously, can anyone of you explain? going around dressed as the 3-year old, with fake blood on you (clear allusion as what happened to her, if not worse)... explain: where is the joke? where is the "subjectivity"?

It would be so interesting to know, and I am not ironic.

Well, this is just the sort of immature behaviour we expect from young boorish Tories. At least he has had the guts to admit he was wrong, though. But will he be making an apology to the family?

Boooring... seriously can we not have some real news rather than pathetic CF backstabbing. And to think that even some of the better blogs have linked to this rubbish. If you want some real banter you should try joining a decent student club rather than wasting your student life as a dull nobody with pretensions of grandeur. CF does not create MPs, it creates a cheap source of labour (no pun intended) for activism. The day a CF member becomes a Cabinet minister is the day Conservatism dies.

Though I doubt this rant will qualify as politically correct enough to be posted here.

I think he has paid a high enough price for his stupidity. This incident may tarnish his reputation for years to come.

Having attended Keele University at the same time as Matt I can personally vouch for his honesty and integrity.

Anonymous said...

I can not believe people are actually defending his actions. He would not have offered an apology if he thought he was in was right to attend a party dressed as maddie. The fact that others are calling tb a 'back stabber' goes to show where their morals lie. Any one who does some thing as disgusting as Matt Lewis should have the whistle blown, whether his is a tory or not. Any one who finds abduction and/ or abuse (Fritzl girls and Natasha Kampus) have no place in society, let alone politics. All of those involved are scum and deserve to feel the pain that the mcains and all the other people they are taking the mick out of. If Matt Lewis was my child, friend or associate i would be ashamed of them and embarresed to know them.

Only such person that envies can do something like you (Maddie). How does this even concern you anyway? Do you have kids or are you just a loser that does not learn anything, own anything, can spare anuthing etc.? Seems that you are. Get a life!
