Now you see him..

...and now you don't.

According to
Paul Waugh
; "I'm told by a friend of James Purnell that he certainly won't be at the PLP tonight. "We do want him to actually see his 40th birthday," the pal joked."

Looks like Purnell might just be the Minister for silly walks. Worst coup ever.

UPDATE 18:38: Strike that, potentially - Guido is
reporting
that Purnell will put himself forward as the challenger if no credible candidate comes forward before noon tomorrow.

He who wields the knife never wears the crown.

We got a tip-off last night that Purnell is facing an Emergency Meeting of his Constituency Association on Friday.

Apparently Local Cllr Jim Fitzpatrick (?) is unhappy with him, saying that the Cllrs do all the work in the Constituency and Purnell barely turns up. Something tells me this was less of an issue when he hadn't resigned and called for Brown to go.

The man's a worm, swapping one idiot for another, but perhaps a little less psychotic.

For an o/t masterpiece poem try this:

I think Kipling would have been in agreement.

i think he doesnt want to wear the crown though. not for 10 years at least. he will happily run as a stalking horse, and hes never been that divisive.

Maybe Purnell is the stalking horse who doesn't intend to wear the crown. Others, perhaps Milliband and Johnson are waiting for him to make that move.
