Getting the Hang of this Polling Lark

Last week,

KeepRightOnline
and TB launched the second straw poll to ascertain the membership favourite for Conservative Future Chairman. A vote is likely to take place toward the end of the summer, and we’ve seen some keen beans off the mark already. Keen bean KRO takes a look at what this all means...
Overwhelmingly, it seems the membership favourite at this point is none of the above, followed by Michelle Donelan current National Executive Press Officer and ex-PPC in Wentworth. Michelle received 15% of the vote, while her closest competitor was none other than some randomer Mr. Harry Cole (11%). (Ed: not going to happen by the way.)

A less than convincing performance for Exec members Chris Hampsheir and Patrick Sullivan, though that’s not to say they’re down or out yet. It’s still all to play for. The middle of the field is tight with the Murdoch pole climber Oliver Cooper pulling in 3rd, Newcy lass Emma Carr in 4th and NUS wannabee Kit (Friend) on the block in 5th. Ben Howlett, who announced his candidacy on Wednesday pulls in 6th place with 8% of the vote – nearly half that of the current favourite. An honourable mention goes to Andy Peterkin, who despite months in the wilderness has commanded 25 votes. Sure he’d say something along the lines of that being proof that there are 25 conservatives left in CF.

What’s interesting is that once again, there are a huge chunk of ‘Other’ votes – going primarily to the relatively anonymous ‘Simon Cavalier-Jones’, who when considered, pulls in 78 votes, pushing him into a healthy second place. Once again, the comedians were out as, ‘The Sexiest Totty’, ‘Scrap CF’ and ‘Al Cooling’ got write-in votes. This time around we asked who should be Deputy Chairman, too. The results of this once again put Michelle Donelan in front (14%), Emma Carr in on 13%, Harry Cole on 11% and Cooper and Friend level on 10%.

Chew that over kids. Wonder if Tweetminster reckon they could predict the result.

Can't believe I came last!

Although... I'm more surprised that there were 16 people who voted for me!

Interesting results. Not everyone you've included there will run, so it remains to be seen if that's the shape things will take as we get closer to the election.

We should probably see who stands, and what people say when it comes announcing platforms and policies, and really engaging with members. Or is it too optimistic to assume that will happen?

Very Interesting, this must be regarded as a disaster from Ben Howlett coming 6th whilst he is the only candidate officially in the race. Maybe time to pull out?

Oliver Cooper, Emma Carr and Kit Friend have all publicly posted for votes. Michelle Donelan has been semi-stalking into voting for her, even asking me via Facebook chat at 1am. In addition to that it's all over her Facebook and Twitter, I wonder how many of her votes came from CF members?

Patrick Sullivan and Chris Hampsheir have not really been pushing for votes.

Overall I think it clearly shows that people don't want any of these candidates. Donelan would be a total disaster.

Apparently Patrick today officially declared his candidacy. Jesus.

Kit Friend for CF Chairman.

It's not hard to realise that "Mr. and Mrs CF" who claim that Donelan would be a disaster is none other than CF-megaflops Clare Hilley and Steven George... the worst thing to happen to CF... ever.

No doubt Hilley/George will be kicking themselves for letting the election slip away from them in the past few months... they've made more enemies than Bush and Ahmadinejad put together.

Sullivan will be the embodiment of this failure. What a joke. My vote goes to Oli Cooper.

Alexandra, nothing on google when I search the great man's name, other than "Patrick Sullivan's Steakhouse", but maybe that's right?

Whatever happened to Owen Meredith, Ed Hallam and the rest of the great ambitious?

Ben Howlett has over 100 supporters on his Facebook group, which would seem to invalidate any suggestion he lacks support.

Will there be hustings?

Lol, Anon, could you be Raheem by any chance? Just for the record this username is not Hilley or George. Although good to see Donelans campaign attack dog leaping on anybody who does not like her.

Of course Donelan would be a massive disaster she is the unacceptable face of CF, everything the girl has ever done in CF is a disaster, the failed Media team, the shameless self promotion, the fact she has made CF and even greater laughing stock amongst the main party with her brazen attitude and offers of favours from CF in return for personal gain.

Her rude, dismissive attitude. You must be Raheem as your the only person who actually likes her! Nobody else does, the biggest factor in this election will be who harness' the anti-Donelan vote and if you don't believe me watch this space.

It's a really damming state of affairs when Michelle Donelan can win a poll for CF leader. The same woman who failed to get a post in the York Uni Conservative Association because she was neither use nor ornament.

I know her very well and can only say, whatever you do think very carefully before voting for her and remember for evil to prosper it requires good men to simply do nothing.

Seriously, this is why CF is now laughed at by the party. This ridiculous bitching, it is pathetic and surely not what the debate is about. The fact that after 13 years we still can't get the party elected should surely be a big enough reality check to make us focus?

I'm glad I left CF behind ages ago.

It's good enough as a student to meet other young tories etc but I quickly realised what a joke the national organisation was. Same goes for a lot of its bitchy immature members. I met better young tories outside of CF.

CF is overdue some fresh faces otherwise the same old rot remains. Don't half these candidates and names mentioned on here have anything better or more grown up to do by the time they hit their mid/late 20s?

I want to engage with as wide a cross-section of CF as possible. One of the major problems with CF, as perhaps with all youth politics, is personal politicking, and we have to get over these cliques and clashes.

Which TV star said, "Youth politics matters so much because it matters so little"? I want us to regain an important in the Conservative Party that makes it impossible for that adage to hold weight in future.

Anonymous comments don't help to achieve that: even if those same commenters endorse the best candidate in this case. ;)

Yes it's a real shame that Donelans campaign team and a.n other (as yet to be identified) team are already mudslinging. Judging from the response accusing then of beig hilley and George I am guessing that Donelans people think it's Patrick Sullivans campaign attacking her. The Plot thickens.

The real point we should be focusing on here, is not electing an unsuitable candidate. We also need to remember that the Chairman is a post within the Party and you need a serious operator to move CF on and regain credibility. I personally think that given the current position of CF and the relative insignificance within the Party, the NME candidates have proven themselves not to be the right person for the job.

Wow. Amazing. Saddest bunch of people like, EVER. Do u all not have jobs... Lives.... Think you all need a good shag and to get over yourselvrs, whoever wins - big deal. It's a doomed position, look at previous chairs - all failures, they all flopped, bunch of loosers really. Chill the f*** out.

Dear Mr and Mrs CF,

That wasn't me... But this is. Having been told about your blogpost attempting to smear me (sigh) I thought I'd see what all this fuss is about.

Funnily enough, I'm not a CF member and can't vote. Nor will I be running Michelles campaign as I informed her two days ago due to work commitments.

So good try. Perhaps be honourable and stop being anonymous before you attempt to name and shame someone and get it wrong.

P.S. While you are entitled to your opinion, your idea that only I like Michelle is proved laughable by the poll result AND subsequent messages of support for her on Facebook groups aimed at fostering discussion about the election. #justsaying

I find it very sad that people are so quick to attack Michelle for her efforts within CF....it seems to me that the majority of comments don't come from an understanding of the role she has played, rather are intended as a personal attack.

I have no intention of getting involved in the 'mudslinging' (if that's what the election degrades into) but I will stick my neck out and say that Michelle doesn't deserve to be attacked in this way. She's a good friend of mine who has always been supportive and makes time to listen to people and their views. Fair enough if you don't like her politics then just don't vote for her, but stand up and name yourself before you start the bitching!

Raheem you do make me laugh! Strange how your spreading lies openly about candidates and then denying it. You amaze me.

Jenn Taylor? Who are you? Never heard of you, or are you Jennifer Taylor fellow NME member. AKA Donelans fluffer. It amazes me that people like you don't understand with her catalogue of unacceptable behaviour that people don't like her. To degrade legitimate debate over a candidates behaviour to "mudslining" says it all really. You won't listen at the best of times and frankly try to silence her numerous critics by degrading their concerns you simply add fuel to the fire. Your approach of "well it does not matter what anybody does, so long as they don't use it against somebody, because I don't believe in personal responsibility" sure your in the right party?

Donelans closet is so full it makes Imelda Marcos look like casual shopper. Frankly for her own good and for CF she should not run, but let a proper clean candidate come through.

Donelan Tags: CurryGate, UniGate, MediaGate, liegate, Notoncandidateslistbutselectedgate, CWLFgate, falseallegationgate, whohadanaffairwithcchqstaffergate, didnotmakethecallsgate, messedupatargetseatgate. bribegate, cardgate, ybfgate, neverbeenelectedgate, lobbygate, neverwonanelectiongate.

More to come during the campaign. And a whole host of senior party figures briefing against her (by senior I mean Parliamentary not CF) due to her outrageous behaviour.

Mr and Mrs CF + Anon. How ever much you dislike Michelle, if she is half as bad as you say then she won't get elected and you need not worry. I know her and think it's not fair, even though I may stand against her.

For the sake of CF and TB sanity please leave off it. Spend some time coming up with ideas to improve things, rather than simply attacking people for being brave enough to stand.

If we carry on like this any victory could well be pyrrhic.

so mr and mrs cf, tell us about these scandals!!!!!!!!

Seriously people this is getting to be just too much.

There are candidates that are 'on the list' that I think would be an utter disaster however I wouldnt bring myself to a certain level and name and shame them. I believe that people can choose for themselves and dont need others to spread utterly pointless rumours and lies about candidates.

If these anonymous people actually care about the party and the organisation then they will stop and think about what their comments and actions mean. This is a youth organisation election and it simply doesnt need to be turned into a high school bitch fest!

Shame these bloggers don’t come out and say these accusations in public or the paper- pretty sure there would be a legal case here – then we would have some fun!! Seriously have all got you nothing better to be doing – these CF elections are for children – just like CF it seems?
