Blog Meme: What Were You Doing When...?

Hello from the beach... ah the wonders of a 3G dongle...

Miss me yet kids?

This little question thing has been buzzing around the internet today. TB was nominated and so duly provides…

Where was TB when...

Princess Diana's death - 31 August 1997
TB had just got back from holiday and landed at a very silent Gatwick. It was very disconcerting walking through a crowded but silent terminal.

Margaret Thatcher's resignation - 22 November 1990
TB was four so was probably in the playroom…

Have hazy memories of buying champagne in the grotty bar in student halls the day Blair finally named the day he would be going. That was a great night.

Attack on the Twin Towers - 11 September 2001
It was on a very windy rugby field doing Tuesday afternoon training and a guy notorious for making up stories was telling everyone that the Pentagon had been attacked. No one believed him it wasn’t until a couple of hours later that TB got to the car and to Radio 4…

England's World Cup Semi-Final v Germany - 4 July 1990
Again the years a showing… Football’s Coming Home was the first single TB ever bought though for Euro ’96 though.

President Kennedy's Assassination -
22 November 1963
Will have to ask Mummy Bear about that one…

TB nominates:

TheBlueGuerilla
Guido Fawkes
Tory Heaven
Shane Greer

Princess Diana's Death:
It was summer holidays and I remember turning on some awful kids tv show on sky and seeing a notice saying "please turn to sky news for an important message from Buckingham Palace"

Thatcher's resignation:
not a clue. I was 1 and a half. I'm sure I was suitably troubled by it...

Twin Towers;
I'm ashamed to say this but I was in a library lesson on a Tuesday afternoon. I went to a bloody good school and yet they spent time training us to be.. librarians. And we had no idea what was going on.

Football;
Don't care. My young age is irrelevant, I wouldn't care regardless.

Kennedy;
I was minus 25. Apparently my Dad was a student working at a hospital and was told on a break.

I'm touched by my nomination. Guest post coming soon xxx

Princess Diana's death - 31 August 1997

Was 12 years old. I remember being shocked at the strength of the reaction.

This wasn’t the most significant news story for me that year. I really became interested in Politics whilst following the 1997 election. Was the only person in my class to support John Major!

Margaret Thatcher's resignation - 22 November 1990

Bizarrely one of my earliest memories was hearing about this on the news. I was too young to really appreciate the significance of it though.

Attack on the Twin Towers - 11 September 2001

Was in an AS Level Politics class. I remember a sensation of disbelief followed by my politics teacher leading a discussion on the significance of it.

I was both incredibly sad and incredibly worried. I was sad having visited the twin towers on my holiday only weeks before. The knowledge that I had walked past, spoken to and seen people who had just been murdered added to my outrage at the attack.

I was also concerned about my own safety and that of my family having gone to school right in the heart of the City of London. In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy no one knew whether there would be any more attacks.

England's World Cup Semi-Final v Germany - 4 July 1990

No Idea. Was too busy watching Andy Peters and Ed the Duck in the Broom Cupboard.

President Kennedy's Assassination - 22 November 1963

Even my Dad is too young to remember this one - he was all of 6 years old! He was at Chester Zoo when Bobby Kennedy was shot and apparently England also played Yugoslavia that day. Not that that is relevant to anything.

Happy to oblige TB. Have posted my own answers at toryheaven.com, and passed it on.

So you were 4 in November 1990, but old enough to drive in September 2001?
Methinks with those mathematics you're a product of Blair's education education education system.
